Tracker Troubles and Downtimes
Written by Homey[GER], 07.08.2007 at 13:10.
Mooorning!

Just thought to let you know that we have finally moved our website to a new host/server farm. You probably have already seen it in the last days that we were offline for a longer time. Sunday morning I got spammed by my mobile phone that was reporting that all my websites and services went offline (never had something like this in 5 years). So I checked my emails and Instant Messages and had to find out that our partner and provider (SCI) will not be able anymore to host us and that I have to find a new host for all my websites and services. Which is not very easy to do within a few hours on a sunday morning because we talk about many serverpower that is required to handle this stuff, a good connection with enough bandwidth and a good latency to make several terabytes of traffic every day/week. SCI got informed by their 'Datacenter' on saturday that they will shut down everything from SCI on monday (business trouble; money; I don't know). SCI is really very sorry for this. They were a good hosting partner all the time and really spend a lot of time, energy and money into our 'tracker' sites. But because they can not guarantee that our sites will be online all the day and probably be down for a few weeks they shutted down everything from us to make backups and secure all our data (just ~50 GB) so that I can find another host.

I have bought/rented 3 servers now for our sites that I can use and which should be able to handle most of my stuff until SCI solved their problems with their datacenter or I found a new host for us (we already know where to go then). But this new server is currently driving me a little bit crazy and I am still messing around on thousands of things. Specially the updates from PHP/MySQL 4 to version 5.x are causing some problems here and there with our php scripts because some of them were coded years ago and are not php5 ready yet. Working on that ....

I am really sorry for this. I know how important it is for you to check where your buddies are playing, chat in our forums, get the latest news and sure ... check your stats. But I hope you understand that it was a big surprise for us on sunday and that it simply takes some time to transfer 4 very large and complicated websites and services around the planet. Normally I needed 1 day for 1 website in the past, yesterday I made 4 on a day, which will probably cause some trouble here and there because I did simply not have enough time yet to check and fix everything.

So if you want to help me ... report any small problem that you see on our website/forums. If you see something broken, report it so that I can fix it asap.

Highway Tampa Final Version Released
Written by GrmRprRG, 30.06.2007 at 04:57.
EA has announced the release of the final version of the new Highway Tampa Map.

(Thanks to seanmagon for tiping me off in the Game Discussion Forum.)

quote:

Following a successful beta, the final version of Highway Tampa for Battlefield 2 is now ready to roll out. DICE, along with our update partner Intel, created this new map focused on tank battles that echo those of Battlefield 1942. Exploding shells ring out across the desert as tank columns meet in furious battle amidst the swirling sands.

Tweaks since the beta version include more infantry cover to help them hold onto flags, improved jeep spawning to better prevent stranded infantry and a number of glitch fixes. We wish to thank the Battlefield community for all the time they put in playing the map and posting feedback to the forums. We're sure you'll enjoy the epic vehicular warfare in this new map.

Here's the link to the News Item on the EA Battlefield website:

Just in case they mess up the news item, here's a link to the download direct from EA:
http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/misc/BF/2/

P.S. I must admit, I backed up my Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2 folder...just in case. wink

Battlefield 2 - New Map (Highway Tampa - Beta) released!
Written by Homey[GER], 05.06.2007 at 16:32.
That's right soldiers, a new official map (beta) was released by EA/DICE for Battlefield2!

quote:
Soldiers! Download And Roll Out!
Through a collaborative effort Intel and EA DICE are rolling out a new Battlefield map for players to battle on. Highway Tampa is a vehicle focused map that offers a game experience similar to classic 1942 desert warfare. Explore this stretch of the Arabian Peninsula in your choice of vehicle and work with your team mates to conquer the map for your team. Download the beta, join in the servers, and drive, fly, and destroy your way to victory. Then drop by the EA forums and let us know what you think. Also keep your eyes to the future as this stretch of desert will see combat across two generations of Battlefield.

Website maintenance (May 2007)
Written by Homey[GER], 22.05.2007 at 20:41.
Spring is a time for change, when couples fall in love, the trees bloom -- and Battlefield Tracker‘s get new server hardware. That's right, we perform routine maintenance within the next hours and days and move the whole website and all our services to new web- and database servers, hosted in another datacenter (in the usa; goodbye Amsterdam!) for better performance and availability.

You won't be able to access this website during the routine maintenance, but rest assured that we will be back as soon as possible! We have started to work on the new servers while I am posting this news article! When we think that the new servers are ready for you, this website and all our external services here will go completly offline for a longer time. Hopefully just for a few hours, but it also can take up to 1-2 days because we want to make everything correctly. The current server has an uptime of 236 days already and we want to make sure that the new server works stable and fast like the current one, and that takes a little bit time.

Thanks for your patience Wub

News Update:
Welcome back on our new "Quad Core" Server !!!
BF2Tracker was transfered successfully. However, expect some more shorter downtimes for server tweaking ...
Please let me know if you experience problems or find stuff on our website that is not working anymore!

And thank you very much to PlayLincJay and SCI for everything!!!

Server problems
Written by Double-T, 03.04.2007 at 16:47.
Attention everyone!

quote:
Connection Problems with Battlefield and other Titles

We wanted to update our players on the current status with the issue that is preventing soldier selection in Battlefield. Due to an ISP service outage the soldier databases are not accessible to players who are logging in. The problems with service are not limited to only Battlefield and are causing similar login issues with other titles that utilize IGN/Gamespy online services. Because this issue is not intrinsically linked to the systems used to operate Battlefield or any of the other affected games but rather the communication between players and those systems we are uncertain of when the ISP outage will be corrected. EA DICE and Gamespy are working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and sincerely appreciate your patience during this outage.

Cheers,

-Colin Clarke

----------[EDIT]----------

Looks like everything is back to normal again! Yeha
